Wireless access and bandwidth-sharing

Further to my previous post on Wireless Broadband here, I would recommend that people check out this article.

Without going in to too much detail, this was a model of access provision that I was considering a long time ago, but at that time the costs were higher and some of the issues had not been resolved. The important principle here is that it is a communal effort using shared resources...an idea which fits in neatly with many more community-minded administrators and developers (e.g. the co-operative nature of the internet, the contribution to Open Source solutions) and a spirit that is hopefully still alive and well in HB. Original musings on the subject of the public mesh concept considered the possibilty of it becoming a sort of undernet, under the control of *us* and not major corporations and access providers. Anyway..I digress into more philosophical matters......

The important question here is..would people consider the option of a community-built network using shared broadband connections to access existing internet services?
