Libya

Is there any way we can have a message of solidarity with the Libyan people on Hebweb please ? Or even better do something more than that to get the issue noticed. They are being ignored. There was an interview with a woman called Dr Jalal Al Gallal of the National Libyan Transitional Council. Listen to it on BBC iplayer Radio 4 on the Today programme on Radio 4 this morning saying how desperate they all are, demanding that the media drop the use of the word 'rebels' to describe them and saying the rest of the world would have the Libyan people on their conscience when Gadafi wreaks his revenge if they do nothing now.

It's good to see that the few MPs who voted against war on Libya included Halifax MP Linda Riordan and Green MP Caroline Lucas.

Far from helping the rebels Nato/UN intervention will only make matters worse. It isn't a 'No-fly zone' it's a 'killing zone' for hi-tech western military hardware.

The sooner Gaddafi is overthrown by his own people the better, but the likely hood at present is that the country will be split into two with both sides locked in civil war for longer. Then the ground troops will have to go in and hey presto another Iraq/Afghanistan/Bosnia.

And of course the war is for oil, not to enhance the democratic process.

Charles - while you're at it, do you have a cure for the common cold?

If I remember correctly, the last time the US bombed Libya - about 25 years ago - half of Hebden Bridge were at the crossroads in front of the then Tourist Information Centre protesting with placards and candles.

Graham asked, 'Charles - while you're at it, do you have a cure for the common cold?'

No but I have enough commonsense not to start another war in a Muslim country for oil.
