Town Council give 10K to Flood fund
At a meeting of the Town Council last night (Wednesday 27th June) the Town Council agreed to initially provide £10,000.00 for the emergency fund established by the Community Foundation For Calderdale (CFFC). The funding is available to residents of Hebden Royd who have suffered financial hardship as a consequence of the flooding.

Cllr Dave Young who proposed setting up the fund said 'at this time many families are in real financial hardship and we hope that this will, in some way, help them get through the next few weeks as they try to rebuild what has been damaged in these terrible floods'.
Prime Minister praises "the resilience" of Calder Valley community.
In reply to a question from our MP, Craig Whittaker, Prime Minister, David Cameron said yesterday in Parliament, "I quite understand why my hon. Friend wants to raise that issue. I believe that more than 550 properties in his constituency alone were affected by these really damaging and dangerous floods.
On flood insurance, we are going to work very hard with the industry to continue to deliver widely available and affordable household insurance in flood-risk areas.
I absolutely join him in praising the resilience of his community, having suffered as my constituency suffered in 2007. Although the recovery from floods is extremely difficult, the resilience of our communities and the amount of public and community service that comes out of them is remarkable and deserves our praise."
Craig Whittaker had asked: "The Calder Valley flood victims Facebook page and the Community Foundation for Calderdale JustGiving page show great community spirit, and the fact that the arts festival, Mytholmroyd gala and handmade parade are all going ahead this week shows the community's resilience and, also, that the Calder Valley is open for businesses. Can my right hon. Friend update our flooded communities on how negotiations are going with the insurance industry, so that they can get insurance in the future and at a reasonable price?"

300 tonne Crane moves boat from Rochdale Canal
The BBC have reported that a 300-tonne crane was used to lift the stranded boat from the weir. The operation to move a narrowboat became necessary of the floods left the boat wedged across the canal after the flooding.
The Environment Agency now estimates that about 900 properties were damaged in the upper Calder Valley floods on Friday. The bill for repairs and clearing-up operations could run into tens of millions of pounds. See Courier report
