Volunteers give Calder Holmes
a coat of paint

Tuesday, 1 July 2008

Calder Holmes Park received a fresh coat of paint this week in what could well turn out to be a job similar to painting the Forth Rail Bridge.

Volunteers

Royal & Sun Alliance volunteers,
Stevie Ross, Laura Winnick and Simon Matthews

Volunteers from the Royal & Sun Alliance insurance group started repainting the 1.2 kilometers of railings that surround the park. As part of the National Week for Volunteering, 24 volunteers joined Hebden Royd Town Council in starting the project with the help of Calderdale Cares and Calderdale MBC who have provided the materials.

'It's is going to be a slow process as the railings have not been painted for over 20 years but the small section we have completed shows how good it will look when we have finished. We're aiming to link up the canal path first linking with the new gates onto the tow path that have been recently installed. They allow much better access and flexibility for park users.''Comments have been very positive on all the work we have been doing in Calder Holmes' Jason Boom, Environmental Community Warden for Hebden Royd told the Hebden Bridge Web.
