Temporary car park about to open: old Fire Station

Friday, 6 November 2009

Calderdale Council are working in partnership with Eshton Gregory Ltd to create an additional 38 parking spaces at the old Fire Station in Hebden Bridge.

The temporary car park, which opens on Monday 9 November, has been made possible following an approach by the developers to the Council to operate the site as a car park until the housing market picks up.

The proposed development, located between Valley Road and Hangingroyd Lane, has been delayed and should be in operation as a car park between one and two years.

Councillor Amanda Byrne, Cabinet Member for the Economy and Environment said: “This is another great example of how the Council is supporting business through the current economic downturn.

Sharing costs and working together has provided the opportunity for extra parking space in the town centre which will be extremely welcomed in the busy period in the run up to Christmas.”

The car park will be managed by Calderdale Council under its pay and display regulations and will provide 38 parking bays including two for disabled use.
