Hebden Bridge Angels - up and running by Easter

Wednesday, 7 January 2009

The Rev Marcus Bull has told the Hebden Bridge Web that he wishes to thank everyone who came to Hope Baptist Church yesterday eveningfor the meeting to set up a Hebden Bridge Angels group. He has told us that it was a very positive and encouraging meeting, with representatives from the Police and Hebden Royd Town Council as well as churches and community groups.

The plan is to operate on Friday nights from 8.00 (or earlier if possible) - 11.00 p.m.
The Rotary Club have offered to buy Hi-Visibility jackets, Chris Norbury has funding for radios or mobile phones for the team, and there are a number of other avenues which may also explore for funding.

Hope Baptist Church (opposite the park) will be used as a 'base' from which to serve teas and coffees, and as a place out of the cold.

All the group need now is more volunteers. They really need two teams of three for each Friday (three to stay at the 'base' and three to walk the streets).

All volunteers will need to have a CRB check, and there's still a lot to organise. But they hope to be up and running soon after Easter.

After tonight's meeting the group had a grand total of 14 volunteers! But some of those are only able to commit to one Friday a month, so they could do with twice that number.

Please contact Marcus Bull or leave a message on the church phone (01422 844006) if you want to volunteer or find out more.
