landfill tip at Pecket Well

The proposal to carry out work on this tip which is contaminated with asbestos and poisonous metals to a significant degree has caused great worry to the residents of Pecket Well, who would face disturbance to the site, as well as 17500 lorry loads of further "inert material" being added to the site over a period of two Summers - 2001 and 2002. These lorries would have to use the already fragile and dangerous A6033 either through Hebden Bridge, or from Oxenhope or both. Although wheels would be "washed" they would have been working on a toxic site. Pecket Well residents have written to oppose the planning - No.00/00107/WAS. We need to find an environmentally friendly solution and to get a more accurate definition of the problem. Anybody who has views on the level of traffic coming through Hebden Bridge - 50 lorries a day! should express their views on the planning application to The Director of Environmental Services, Northgate House, Northgate, Halifax HX11UN.
