Glyn HughesOn 15 November Shoestring Press will be publishing a new collection of poems by Glyn Hughes, his first for over twenty years. His first full collection, Neighbours, was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation and winner of a Welsh Arts Council Poetry prize.

Following his Selected Poems (1979) Hughes turned to prose fiction. Where I Used to Play on the Green was awarded the Guardian Fiction Prize and also the David Higham prize, while The Antique Collector was shortlisted for the Whitbread and the James Tate Black Awards.

Two of his novels were chosen by Guardian readers as among their favourite "great classics of English nature writing." Now, with this new poetry collection, Hughes returns to his first love.

"Glyn Hughes's 'The Letter' literally makes my scalp contract, my blood race, my eyes swim. The effect is that of intense excitement, and it appears to be indefinitely repeatable. Why are these poems not among the classics?" Philip Hobsbaum, in Rialto
