Construction work is currently under way for the Hebden Bridge Traffic Review and as a result Bridge Gate is temporarily closed to all traffic.

Under the Traffic Review, and after lengthy public consultation, it was agreed that Bridge Gate would become a semi-pedestrianised area, allowing access at all times and in both directions for local minibus services and cyclists and also between 4pm and 10am (one-way only, from St George’s Street to New Road) for vehicles servicing the local shops and businesses.

Since construction work began there have been calls to permanently close Bridge Gate to buses and in view of this the Council is now making a proposal to divert them onto nearby streets and stops. The only buses affected would be those to Old Town, as follows:

Services A and 593 to Old Town: from New Road via Hope Street (stopping at the Library) then Albert Street to Keighley Road and normal route;

Services B and 593 from Old Town: from Keighley Road via Crown Street (new alighting stop near the junction with Carlton Street) to New Road and normal route.
