Local Councillor offers support
to ethical businesses

Monday, 23 June 2008

Janet Battye, the recently re-elected Councillor for Calder Ward, has been invited by Ethicalbiz to meet with local ethically-run businesses at the Trades Club in Holme Street on Thursday, 3rd of July, to discover first hand the desires and concerns of this growing sector of the local economy with a question and answer session.

Ms Battye has already expressed her desire to see the green agenda rolled out through all of the Calderdale Concil's departments. "We want to see more collaborative working within Calderdale Council on environmental issues, so that we have a bigger pool of staff and expertise. We proposed establishing a "Green Team" across the Council. We may always work with Kirklees (or other Councils or organisations) but we want to make sure that we are better equipped internally" she said during her recent campaign.

The meeting is free to all businesses and individuals who are interested and will run between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.

Ethicalbiz founder, Jason Elliott, added "Now that the dust has settled after the vote, this is the perfect opportunity to make sure that our elected representative is completely clear about what it is that we would like her to do. This is an area rich with talented and innovative small businesses who bring a lot to both the economy and local society. We need to make sure that the Council are listening to us."
