This year's BIG GREEN WEEKEND will be bigger and better than ever!

Tuesday, 24 February 2009

Now that the snowy weather has passed, its time to put this year’s greenest local event into your diaries if you haven’t already – yes its the Big Green Weekend 2009!   This year’s Big Green Weekend, celebrating all things green is being held over the Spring Bank Holiday, May 23rd, 24th and 25th will not only be in Hebden Bridge centre, but will also have some events in Mytholmroyd and other parts of the valley.

The Hebden Bridge Web has been told that this year’s event is going to be much much bigger and even better than 2008.  The Big Green Weekend celebrates green in the widest sense - not just environmental issues and sustainability but social and economic equality as well.

The Big Green Weekend planning team is working hard to make sure there will be something on offer for all the family and to suit all tastes:

  • Big Green Weekenda fantastic array of green-themed art events
  • activities for kids, including storytelling and a fantastic treasure hunt round the town and the local schools have their own projects underway.
  • street theatre
  • a fashion show
  • a film competition
  • literary events
  • an organic gardens trail
  • diverse musical offerings
  • organic food and drink theme running throughout the weekend, including an organic beer festival!
  • The Alternative Technology Centre will be helping with demonstrations, discussions, exhibitions, lectures, hands-on activities and much more.
  • a big green market with a wide range of green and ethical goodies on sale, much of which will be produced locally.

As if that wasn’t enough, Big Green Weekend is joining up with the Transition Town Project, getting the community involved in how Hebden Bridge can become a sustainable town.

There will also be a political Big Green Debate between the main parliamentary candidates.

So, get the date in your calendars and watch out for more news here on the Hebden Bridge Web and at www.biggreenweekend.org.uk.

And if you have other ideas for activities – or can help with funding - please don’t hesitate to contact the planning team at info@biggreenweekend.org.uk.
