Arts Festival prepares to launch 2009 programme

Tuesday, 5 May 2009

Mark SteelIt’s the final countdown to this year’s Hebden Bridge Arts Festival and one thing is certain: this, the 16th consecutive Festival, promises to offer a fortnight packed with comedy, music, drama and literature events.

Keeping very quiet about who will be performing, speaking or exhibiting, organisers are willing to share a few tasters.  BAFTA-nominated comedian, author and columnist Mark Steel is one confirmed act.  He returns to Hebden Bridge with a new show, What’s Going On?,  a humorous look at how his life began to deteriorate upon turning 40.

Other guests taking part may include Simon Armitage and a descendant of Charles Darwin.  Edinburgh Festival previews and UK premieres will also be up for grabs.  In short, there should be something for everyone.

All will be revealed at the official programme launch on Friday May 8. Programmes will be available on the Festival website and around the Hebden Bridge area over the weekend, with postal booking commencing on Monday May 11.

The Festival runs from Friday June 26 to Sunday July 12.

Visit the Festival website or phone 01422 842684 for more information.
