This morning a dozen men armed with chainsaws started to fell trees on the millpond. This is the land bordered by Windsor View, Spring Grove and the Hebden Water at Salem. Much of this area is covered by a Tree Preservation Order recently confirmed by Calderdale Council.

The above tree was one of those felled in contravention of the Tree Preservation Order by contractors, Binns and Co.

Although most of the local residents were at work around twenty people remonstrated with the tree fellers and contacted both the Council and the Police.

Mark Clyndes the "owner's agent" told residents that plans for a housing development were being submitted to the council this week. He told residents that the new owners of the land were a company called Green Tops, but was unable to give any details of who or where they are.
