We are part of the Woodcraft Folk, an educational movement in England, Scotland and Wales for children and young people designed to develop self-confidence and activity in society with the aim of building a world based on equality, friendship, peace and co-operation.

In our town of Hebden Bridge, we currently run four regular Woodcraft Folk groups, for children aged 6-7, 8-9, 10-12 and 12-14. Groups meet weekly in termtime, and go away on camping and hostelling trips in school holidays.

Height Gate

One of our most exciting current projects is the development of a camping barn in the beautiful south Pennines countryside near our town. This was purchased with the assistance of a grant from the National Lottery Charities Board.

On Sunday, 10th October the Height Gate Barn was formally opened by Chris McCafferty MP and Martin Wainwright, the Guardian's northern correspondent. Over a hundred people walked up the track from the valley road with their packed lunches to attend the opening and a planting of a rowan tree by our MP. See some digital camera photos of the event.
