A designer’s garden with bold, dramatic plantings; mainly herbaceous and ornamental grasses. Woodland, shade and riverbank plantings. Plants for wet places. National collection of astrantias. Angeldale Guest House

This garden (preview www.angeldale.co.uk) again provides an enchanting backdrop for local artists’ work. Set amongst the traditional sandstone dwellings, the garden’s sweeping lawns, majestic linden trees and Sunday afternoon cream teas, provides a relaxing space to interest gardeners and art lovers alike.

A small, quiet garden with sculptures by local sculptor John Adamson. There is a seat to enjoy the birds and pond life. The garden has an emphasis on perennial planting with herbs and medicinal plants. Steps.
Courtyard Garden

Demonstrates how a limited garden space doesn’t have to limit the imagination. (Raised edible beds, container gardening, trees, worm composting, a number of different watering systems for a variety of situations, ponds, reed beds, demo hydraulic ram and interactive fountain).
Theatre Garden

All the plants in this garden are not just pretty faces. Most were chosen for their craft value, to be used for experimenting and education (eg. paper making, dyeing, drying and weaving). Also wildlife planting for health and pest control, solar-lit stepping stones and waterfall.

A school garden with paths and tunnels using mostly natural products. The Nursery garden is larger and more developed with trees, shrubs and •owers.

Mature south-facing terraced garden with fabulous views over the Calder Valley. Well-established trees and shrubs surround lawn area and there are steps down to a Mediterranean style garden with patio. Steps.
Mytholm House

200 years old, still a work in progress, aiming for a colourful and fruitful mixture of formality with wilder habitat. More plants since last year, and the pond has been revamped. Home made refreshments available. Sorry no dogs. Supervised children please. Some steps.

1/4 acre garden with views over Hardcastle Crags to the moors. Mainly alpines and small hardy plants grown in raised beds, rockeries, walls and numerous containers plus an indoor rock garden. The adjoining nursery stocks over 400 choice and unusual plants. Steps.
