Last train from Manchester doesn't make it till morning
STRANDED rail passengers spent the night trapped on a train.
Twenty nine travellers were stuck at Rochdale station after an electrical fault halted the 11.19pm Manchester-Leeds service. The Northern Rail train eventually left at 4.30am today.
Eileen Jones, of Hebden Bridge, said passengers were singing wartime songs to raise their spirits. "It was so uncomfortable," she said

Disturbance in Cheetham Street
Up to 15 people were thought to have been involved in a disturbance at Cheetham Street, Hebden Bridge, at 10.55pm on Saturday,5th November. Police were called to break up the incident and a number of arrests are believed to have been made for public order offences.

Big Cat sighting in Cragg Vale
Police in the district have received reports of big cats – possibly black panthers – in Calderdale, including one report from a walker near near Hollock Lee Cottages, Cragg Vale. Big-cat expert Paul Westwood said, "Do not look the cat in the face as they will see this as a challenge and may attack."

Hit and run accident caught on mobile phone camera
Four arrested for spray painting police car at the incident
Children in Hebden Bridge took pictures as a black BMW hit the 19-year-old girl as she waited at a bus stop with friends.The incident happened at 5pm last night outside Calder Holmes Park, New Road, Hebden Bridge. The driver of the car mounted the pavement and struck the girl, who has not been named. A police helicopter, video vans and an ambulance were called. Another four were arrested after spray-painting a police car at the scene. More

Another power cut
A power cut hit more than 1,500 homes and businesses in Hebden Bridge (including the Hebden Bridge Web), and has been blamed on someone cutting through a cable. Electricity went off at about 2.40pm and was restored at around 4.30pm. Yorkshire Electricity Distribution Limited claim: "It was a wide-area cable fault caused by a third party who cut through a cable at the junction of Cheetham Street and Station Road, Hebden Bridge."

Star Trek spoof - Jean-Luc photo auction

Star Trek fans are expected to descend on Hebden Bridge Picture House when signed photos of Patrick Stewart are auctioned during performances of a musical comedy, Dazzle. Written as a "musical spacetacular" spoof of Star Trek, Dazzle is being staged by the Calder Valley Youth Theatre whose cast have been sent a message of encouragement from Stewart, the captain of the Starship Enterprise. He also sent the photos. Stewart, who comes from Mirfield, began his own acting career with amateur groups in the Calder Valley, and he hopes soon to watch a CVYT production. Tickets can be reserved by calling 01422 844599. The show is on Oct 6,7,8 at 7.15, with a Saturday matinee at 2.15.
