BT trials "mid-band" service Spring 2003

From Janice Sayer

Yesterday The Register reported a speech by a BT exec announcing that BT will begin trials in Spring 2003 of a 128Kbps mid-band service which should be available quickly to 97% of the population. Apparently email will be "always on" but web access will still be dial up. This isn't great; it's only twice as fast as most normal dial up access, and a quarter as fast as real broadband (and I bet it won't be a quarter of the price) but maybe HB could get a trial? I'm going to contact btbroadband@bt.com to see, in the hope I don't get yet another standard email reply.
