Prose and poetry from mother and daughter, Adele Geras and Sophie Hannah. Adele is a prize-winning poet and children’s author; her most recent book is Troy and her first novel for adults will be published next year. Sophie has written three books of poetry and three novels, the latest of which, The Superpower of Love, is newly published in paperback.

In 1838 the weavers of Mankinholes successfully resisted the government’s cruel Poor Law Amendment Act. Through the eyes of a typical family of the time, featuring local songs with musicians from The Old Lane Inn, Halifax, we explore this achievement.
