Samuel Beckett: The Man and his Work

an illustrated lecture by John Calder
and The Godot Company

Little Theatre, Holme Street, Hebden Bridge

8.00pm (to 10.00pm approx)

£10 (£8)

Beckett was a realist who felt keenly the evils and sufferings of the world, and his moral message goes deeper and rings truer than most religions. John Calder points out why he is increasingly compared to Shakespeare, and what he has to say to each of us about our lives and destinies.

The passages from the novels, poems and plays chosen for this evening show how almost everything in the writings comes directly from the life experience and thinking of this remarkable man. They are tender, funny, frightening, angry and moving, always thought-provoking, vivid and with a point.

This is a welcome return visit by John Calder (who was for many years Samuel Beckett's publisher and friend) and his Godot Company in this the centenary year of Samuel Beckett's birth. Bookstall.
