More and more housing!

Thursday, May 12, 2005

Have you noticed how the surge in property prices has precipitated a plague of predatory property developers trying to get onto all sorts of sites, suitable or quite unsuitable, so that they can cash in and then move on?

The Calderdale Friends of the Earth AGM on Wednesday 18th May 2005 will be discussing the topic 'More and more housing in Calderdale (and Hebden Bridge)? - What price sustainability?'

FOE were the first organisation in Calderdale to question the Council over the excessive number of housing applications they were permitting - with all the implications for the environment and housing affordability - and at this moment are challenging the proposed UDP.  What will happen if the present housing boom continues? Can it be controlled? What should we be doing to create a more sustainable Calderdale? And there'll also be discussion about an even bigger problem: climate change!

STOP PRESS: you can also find out how our request for a housebuilding moratorium was received by the Inspector at the UDP inquiry on Tuesday!

If you want to find out more, or contribute your ideas, do come along.  Everyone welcome, including non-members; the meeting is upstairs in the White Lion, Hebden Bridge at 7.30pm.
