6th Big Green Week

Tuesday, October 25, 2005

Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd will be buzzing for a week, from 4th-13th November, as The Alternative Technology Centre proudly presents its sixth Big Green Week.

Come and see how exceptional the Calder Valley is with its numerous green initiatives and be inspired by the examples of what is happening in the rest of the country.

The highlights of this year's event are

  • Winter Wonderland in St George‚s Square - with a House Cosy (with advice on energy efficiency, affordable warmth and free low energy light bulbs for Calderdale residents).

  • One-off talks on all forms of Renewable Energy - from the Swift roof-mounted wind turbine to a talk on community owned wind farms by the Awal Aman Tawe community of South Wales.

  • An absorbing presentation on "One Planet Living - a Framework for Sustainable Community Development" by Sumeet Manchanda of Bioregional, the group who designed Bedzed.

  • Shaping the Future of Hebden Bridge - Come and feed in to Hebden Bridge's draft action plan.

  • "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" at the local Picture House - dress to impress and come by bus (free tea or coffee to anyone who does!)

  • BizFizz session run by the New Economics Foundation - the group who praised Hebden Bridge for having the best high street of local shops in the country.

Other attractions include workshops on willow weaving, papermaking, creepy crawlies, and bird boxes. Then there are strawbale building demonstrations, plastics recycling courses, Treesponsibility's tree planting holiday and climate change launch!

And don't forget to visit the ATC itself - particularly since the new "One Planet Living" exhibition room will be featuring an exhibition of stunning photographs of his latest trip to Greenland on behalf of Greenpeace, photographer Steve Morgan who lives in Hebden Bridge.
