Martin Parr – the Albert Street Years

In partnership with Calderdale MBC Museums and Galleries

Born in Surrey in 1952, internationally renowned photographer Martin Parr moved to Hebden Bridge in 1974, and, with ceramicist Jenny Beavan and painter Ray Elliot, founded the Albert Street Workshop. It was from 8 Albert Street, now Ribbon Circus, that Parr began his work capturing life in a northern town, recording the everyday moments of Hebden Bridge residents, particularly the congregation of Crimsworth Dean Methodist Chapel. This exhibition offers a not to be missed opportunity to remember how we used to live.

Curated by Christine Bradley, the exhibition comprises photographs loaned from the Martin Parr collection held by Calderdale Museums and Galleries Service. We would like to thank Richard McFarlane and his colleagues for their support.
