Peter was a wonderful colleague who was loved and respected across the community. He had been a councillor both on Hebden Royd Town Council and Calderdale Metropolitan Council, achieving the rare distinction of being Mayor of the former in 1994, and the latter in in time for the Millennium.
Peter was a teacher, educationalist, and gifted photographer. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, for his warmth, wisdom, and good humour.
Peter is survived by his wife Enid and three grown-up children as well as a number of grandchildren.
His funeral service and interment will be at St. James' Church Mytholm on Friday (8 April) at 2:00pm.

Peter always liked to be doing things - he enjoyed his Council work, his role as older persons' champion, his Audio-visual work, his inter-faith work, the people that he knew. He was usually positive about things and people. He was really pleased to receive the Freedom of the Borough earlier this year. He's one of those special people that I'm proud to have known in recent years.

Peter Coles was an "old school" Liberal who thought deeply about life and loved the Calder Valley and its people.
I was very sad to hear of his death - last time I saw him was when we had a chat just before the General Election - he was enjoying a steak and chips lunch in the White Swan with a nice bottle of red and praised the value for money Liz offered!
In an age when many politicians are puritan bores, Peter Coles loved all that was good about life.
He was also a very spiritual person whose audio-visual presentations were enjoyed by many churchgoers in the valley. Thoughts to his family.
