Victoria Road Playground

Tuesday, 12 June 2012

Hebden Bridge community group "Friends of The Little Park" are delighted to announce that the second phase of planned improvements to Victoria Road playground is due to commence in September.

The group formed in October 2010 and have been working in partnership with Calderdale Council to raise funds to replace play equipment and improve facilities at the much loved play ground. The finished design (featured) has been put together following extensive consultations with local community members and schools and with the help and expertise of SMP play company.

The Little Park

So far we have replaced the little train, provided a springer and sand pit and additional seating and organised community volunteer days to paint the railings. The second phase will see a brand new boat as chosen by pupils at Riverside and Central street schools, a self closing gate, replacement swings and the addition of floor graphics and balance beams to enhance the imaginative play elements of the play ground.

A big thank you to the following organisations for their contribution to the full cost of the project;

  • Calderdale Council capital improvement for play areas fund.
  • Hebden Royd Council.
  • The Cooperative community grant.
  • The Community Foundation.
  • The Rotary club of Hebden Bridge.
  • Calderdale Council small grants scheme.

Further thanks to Community payback for their hard work and to the local community for their ongoing support, particularly those who volunteered during painting days.

Also thanks to Councilors Janet Battye and Dave Young for their support.

The design will be posted on the parks notice board and work will commence on September 10th when the playground will be closed for four weeks. There will be an opening event on completion of the project which the whole community will be welcome to attend.
