Mytholmroyd and Hebden Bridge History Societies hold joint meeting

Saturday, 1 May 2010

The biannual joint meeting of the two local history societies will be at Mytholmroyd Methodist Church on Friday May 7th at 7.30pm. Please come and join our friends for what promises to be an enjoyable evening. Free refreshments will be available.

The speakers will be:

BARBARA ATACK - DATING OLD PHOTOGRAPHS

If you interested in Family History then this talk is for you. Looking for clues to help you date old family photographs, just how do you go about it and what to look for?

How many of us have inherited photographs and wondered who the people are? Being able to date the photos is an invaluable first step. Barbara, who runs the Family History section of the Hebden Bridge Local History Society, will explain how researchers are able to gather a lot of information from old photos. Once you know what type of photo it is, then you can look for clues in the image itself, and use this information in conjunction with other records to discover who is in the photo.

Refreshments

STUART HOLLAND - LIFE IN BARWOOD IN THE 1940s

Tonight Stuart will entertain us with tales of life in Barwoord in the 1940s. Barwood, which is between Friendly and Luddenden Foot, is the village where Stuart was born.

He now lives in Haworth and has been a committee member of Mytholmroyd Historical Society for several years. Most of his working life was in printing and although now retired he helps part time at a friends printing firm in Halifax.

EVELYN GRAHAM - A SHROPSHIRE LASS

"A SHROPSHIRE LASS" is the story of an ancestor from her husband Maurice’s side of the family.

Evelyn, born and educated in Louth, Lincolnshire, came to this area when she married Maurice Morgan. She has been the President of Mytholmroyd Historical Society for several years and a local preacher in the Methodist Circuit.
