Lets not walk away, Lets walk together

Tuesday, 19 April 2011

Following the success of last years ‘We’re not walking away’ charity event that raised £3739.34, the Jones family have decided to make the charity walk an annual event. This year’s walk will follow the same route as last year, starting at Burnley Road playing field in Mytholmroyd on Saturday, May 7th at 11am, and finishing at Salem Community Centre, Central Street, Hebden Bridge.

The five mile walk is pram/ wheelchair/ family-friendly route, suitable for all abilities, the organisers hope for wide support from the local community.

The main purpose of the event is to raise awareness of drug and alcohol related issues among young people and to highlight the support services already in place in Calderdale. Organisations that provide these services such as Lifeline, and Positive Futures will be there on the day with information and advice for anyone who wants an informal chat.

The event brings the community together, raises money and demonstrates to young people who are struggling with addiction that they are supported by the local community.

Tickets and sponsorship forms for the event are available from William Holt’s, and Hebden Bridge Boxing Club in Hebden Bridge. Under 16s are free and there is a £8.00 registration fee for adults.

All funds raised will go to Branching Out who are locally based, and a part of the National Lifeline project. The money will be used to work with families of substance users and to provide free positive activities to young people who live locally. For more information about the services provided by Branching Out, please call 01422 510000, or find them on Facebook.
