Arnold Wesker is an accomplished performer and this evening is a unique opportunity to hear one of the key dramatists of our time read from his plays both published and unpublished. His plays, many of which are landmarks of 20th century theatre, include The Kitchen, The Wesker Trilogy (Chicken Soup
with Barley, Roots, I’m Talking about Jerusalem), Chips with Everything and, scheduled for this year, two new plays: Groupie and Longtitude. 2005 seems like being another good year for the playwright whose first novel Honey is published this autumn and BBC Radio 3 is transmitting his own adaptation of his play Shylock with David Suchet in the title role. In addition to 42 plays his output includes scripts for TV, radio and film. His work is translated and published in eighteen languages and is continually performed worldwide.

Frank Cottrill Boyce

He will be working with years 5 and 6 at Riverside School that day. A long-time collaborator with Michael Winterbottom, Frank Cottrill Boyce is one of the busiest, most prolific and versatile screenwriters currently working in the British film industry. His latest film, Danny Boyle’s Millions, sees him tackling a dark-tinged children’s fable. He also turned the script into a novel – his first – of which he is justifiably proud.

Thanks to Riverside School there is a brief opportunity for members of the public to meet Frank Cottrill Boyce (whose filmography includes Welcome to Sarajevo, Hilary and Jackie, 24 Hour Party People and this year Tristram Shandy) at 3.00pm and have copies of his book Millions signed. “All the classic ingredients to delight… irresistible” (The Times) “A deliciously funny story given depth by a tinge of bitter sweetness” (The Guardian)
