Please note: Hosts are welcoming you onto their property voluntarily so please respect their privacy only and visit during the opening hours. Many venues have restricted access and limited parking.

Free admission unless otherwise stated, some gardens may be collecting for Festival funds

Mayroyd Mill House

Mayroyd Lane, Hebden Bridge HX7 8NS

A designer’s garden with bold, dramatic plantings; mainly herbaceous and ornamental grasses. Woodland, shade and riverbank plantings. Plants for wet places. National collection of astrantias. Featured in Gardens Illustrated ’04 and The Garden ’04. Plant sales and homemade teas. Note: steep steps at entrance. Admission £1 (not open until 1.00pm on Saturday).

Angeldale Guest House

Hangingroyd Lane, Hebden Bridge HX7 7DD

This garden (preview www.angeldale.co.uk) again provides an enchanting backdrop for local artists’ work. Set amongst the traditional sandstone dwellings, the garden’s sweeping lawns, majestic linden trees and Sunday afternoon cream teas, provides a relaxing space to interest gardeners and art lovers alike.

Charlestown, Hebden Bridge HX7 6NX

1/3rd acre terraced hillside woodland garden with raised beds. Patio area redesigned in 2003. Serious composting and large shed. Soft fruit, veg and herbacious perennials. Steps. No parking.

Eden Hurst, Rockleigh and Laurel House

Hurst Road, Hebden Bridge HX7 8HU

A row of three terraced south-facing gardens at the back of Hurst Road, mainly perennial planting with some plants for sale. Steps.

1 The Woodlands

Palace House Road, Hebden Bridge HX7 6JP

A small, quiet garden with sculptures by local sculptor John Adamson. There is a seat to enjoy the birds and pond life. The garden has an emphasis on perennial planting with herbs and medicinal plants. Steps.

Courtyard Garden

Rochdale Canal, Hebden Bridge

Demonstrates how a limited garden space doesn’t have to limit the imagination. (Raised edible beds, container gardening, trees, worm composting, a number of different watering systems for a variety of situations, ponds, reed beds, demo hydraulic ram and interactive fountain).

Theatre Garden

Rochdale Canal, Hebden Bridge

All the plants in this garden are not just pretty faces. Most were chosen for their craft value, to be used for experimenting and education (eg. paper making, dyeing, drying and weaving). Also wildlife planting for health and pest control, solar-lit stepping stones and waterfall.

Central Street Infant School

Central Street, Hebden Bridge HX7 6HB

A school garden with paths and tunnels using mostly natural products. The Nursery garden is larger and more developed with trees, shrubs and •owers.

11 Marlborough Grove

Hebden Bridge HX7 8BS

Mature south-facing terraced garden with fabulous views over the Calder Valley. Well-established trees and shrubs surround lawn area and there are steps down to a Mediterranean style garden with patio. Steps.

Mytholm House

Mytholm Bank, Hebden Bridge HX7 6DL

200 years old, still a work in progress, aiming for a colourful and fruitful mixture of formality with wilder habitat. More plants since last year, and the pond has been revamped. Home made refreshments available. Sorry no dogs. Supervised children please. Some steps.

Upper Valley Support Services

Royd Square, Bond Street, Hebden Bridge HX7 7DE

Early days in creating a colourful, vibrant, living, sensory space that will bring together different community groups with people with learning disabilities to promote inclusion. This year enjoy our garden gallery of local art and a scarecrow trail by local schools. Level access. Open Saturday June 25 only.

Birchwood Cottage

A one acre garden on various terraced levels. Large variety of plants and features in a woodland setting. Steps. Open on Sunday only.

Dean Bottom Farm

Jumble Hole Road, Todmorden OL14 8SU

A beautiful hillside location, an energetic walk up or a leisurely stroll down to a two acre mixture of garden and meadow, with pond, willow dome and trees and shrubs planted during the last seven years. Tea and scones on the veranda! Open on Sunday only.

5 Silver Street

A tiny fairytale garden containing Anne Isseyegh’s artists studio.

3a Weavers Square

Heptonstall HX7 7NS

A cottage garden with a small border and lots of planters and pots tightly packed with plants. There is a large hanging basket and a jasmine creeper that is very sweetly scented.

The house was once a weavers cottage and dates from 1600.

The Old Vicarage

Church Street, Heptonstall HX7 7NT

Walled family friendly garden (children welcome). Small wooden playhouse, lawn shaded by a large cherry tree, herbaceous border and large garden seat.

Boothroyd

Widdop Road, Heptonstall, HX7 7AZ

Sweep of lawns and garden, sycamore and fruit trees overlooking Hardcastle Crags. Lots of red and purple plants. Also sculptures dotted around the garden.

Land Farm

Colden, HX7 7PJ

Four acre woodland garden and art gallery, a plantsman's garden dotted with sculpture. The garden has been featured on BBC Gardeners World and on Radio 4’s Open Country. Admission £3. Parking nearby.

1 Waterloo House

Slack Top, HX7 7HA

1/4 acre garden with views over Hardcastle Crags to the moors. Mainly alpines and small hardy plants grown in raised beds, rockeries, walls and numerous containers plus an indoor rock garden. The adjoining nursery stocks over 400 choice and unusual plants. Steps.

Lane House Farm Cottage

Eastwood Lane, Higher Eastwood, Todmorden OL14 8RS

Sloping to a south-facing aspect, with spectacular views to Stoodley Pike. The garden has been woven seamlessly into four or five separate features to allow contrasting styles of planting and structural interest. Steps. Very limited parking.

Underbank House

next turning from Underbank Avenue, or next turning from Stoney Lane, Charlestown, HX7 6PE (just beyond Pot Belly Stove)

Approximately one acre with various garden areas. Developing “arboretum” of native species. Experimental ground covering of steep slopes. Fruit and veg cage. A “puzzle” tree waiting to be identified. Meadows Edge

Ashenhurst Road, Todmorden OL14 8DS

Two acres set in south-facing hillside. Alongside herbaceous/cottage borders and large terraced veg patch are areas of native trees, hedges and wild•owers. Heather and bilberry hillside with a woodland pond all managed sensitively for wildlife. Plant sales. Any children must be supervised. Steps.

2 Carr View

New Road, Luddenden HX2 6QR

Damp hillside garden cultivated organically using some bio-dynamic preparations. Vegetable and •ower garden and woodland area. Naturalistic gardening. Open Sunday only.

A chance to take in three of the less accessible but spectacular gardens in the company of like minded people. Light refreshments will be available at one of the gardens. Places limited so book early to avoid disappointment. Two three hour tours leaving from the Festival Shop, Albert Street, Hebden Bridge at 10am and 2pm prompt.
