Melvin Burgess and Michael StewartMelvin Burgess made his name and redefined the parameters of young adult fiction with the controversial Carnegie Prize-winning novel Junk.

Burgess has since written other ground-breaking teenage novels. including Doing It and Sarah's Face. Michael Stewart is a multi-award-winning writer, born and brought up in Salford.

Since moving to the UK, Brazilian singer-songwriter Mônica Vasconcelos has established a reputation as one of the finest exponents of samba and bossa nova this side of the Atlantic.
