Street Art for our vibrant town

From Char March

It's wonderful to see the message on one of the eye-sore boarded-up shops:  Shift Happens.  I wonder if there are any artists at all in Hebden who might like to make other artistic statements to help that bit of Market Street reflect our splendidly vibrant town?!

Surely the boarded up shop is an artistic statement in itself?

By not being a coffee shop, micropub or tourist trap it says don't be a sheep, be yourself and proud of it. Eschew relentless commercialism. Challenge middle-class perceptions of an eyesore. Be an unmovable, defiant enigma. Behind the shuttering are probably several cubic yards of irony.

In having artistic integrity it’s truer to vibrant (ugh!) Hebden Bridge than much of the other stuff that goes on in it. Now some unthinking vandal has come along and defaced it. We should all take to the streets in protest.

Nice one Graham! Unbelievably there are people that actually look at it that way.

I have moved to the area in November 2015 and have seen this shop boarded up ever since. Does anyone know the reason it is? Is it for sale or do the owners just not want to lease it out as a business. Seems a shame to have a properly in a good location that is not doing anything.

This has come up several times over the years. I think the essence of it is that the building owner is happy with things the way they are.
