Mytholmroyd Gala

From  John Greenwood

Thursday, 28 September 2017

Reference Mark Graham's post, it’s inexcusable that this has been allowed to continue until the chairman George Sumner’s announcement he is closing the Gala

It is not George Sumner’s Gala to close. He is merely the chairman since 2014 with a duty to ensure continuation of Mytholmroyd’s special event which began in 1903.

George has announced on Facebook that he is selling off all the Gala assets, contravening Hebden Royd Council conditions for awarding him £4,800 in 2015 and contravening the Gala Committee’s constitution. They are not his assets to sell

Hebden Royd Town Council gave him £4,800 with the following standard grant conditions:

Ensure that equipment bought with the grant remains the property of the organisation to which the grant was given.

Your constitution has a dissolution clause which you will comply with:
The organisation may be dissolved at any time by a resolution passed by at least 75% majority at an Extraordinary General Meeting - at which all four elected Officers (or their delegates) and at least four other Members must be present and voting. Any property remaining after settlement of all debts and liabilities shall, with Committee approval, be given to other institutions having objectives similar to those of the Mytholmroyd Gala Committee.

Therefore George should be transferring all Gala assets to the new Committee, not just the accumulated items (gazeebos, first aid kits, flags, decorations, printer, stationery…) but more significantly the assets bought with the £4,800 including generator, £250 super printer, PA system and much more, not forgetting the Gala Chain of Office!

First there was the swimming pool business (which has gone rather quiet), now this. What on earth is going on in Mytholmroyd?
