Wasteful food packaging

From Colm Osiris

Tuesday, 3 October 2017

So much of our food these days comes in unrecyclable and unbiodegradable plastic packaging, sometimes with several layers.

Back in the day there were food co-ops which had grains and pulses in big sacks and barrels, and a scoop or similar, so you could take only what you wanted. Then sadly Health and Safety put paid to that.

But technology now exists to update that model. There’s a shop in Totnes that does this: The Zero Waste Shop.

I’m looking for people who are interested in setting up a co-op in/around Hebden to open such a shop here. Please click on my name at the top of this post to send me an email. Many thanks for reading.

Wow, what a fantastic shop (and website).

Looks like the sort of thing Valley Organics (another fantastic shop!) would be into.

Thanks Rob. Yeah, apparently the country's filling up with the things, but I think we need one here too. :) And don't worry, Valley Organics (who have now moved back into their expanded shop) are going to be involved in the discussions.
