Barclays Branch closing

From  Adrian Riley

Friday, 8 December 2017

The Barclays Hebden Bridge branch is closing on Friday 6th April 2018.

This is a shame for all those who prefer to deal face to face with friendly members of staff. Apparently the nearest branch will be King Cross but who is going to trail down there?

I once asked in the King Cross branch for the postal address of the Rochdale branch. A staff member 'phoned Rochdale to ask them but was told the information was confidential.

Perhaps we should be pleased the Barclays closure notice doesn't require password, fingerprint or iris scanner for permission to read it.

Update: The Branch closure letter gives advice on gaining computer skills for on-line banking. It advocates visiting their website to find the nearest session for these 'digitaleagles' or 'tea and teach sessions'.

I clicked on "Find a session near you" on their website and was given the Orwellian message "You do not have permission to view this directory or page".

It didn't indicate how permission could be sought or why it was withheld. Other non relevant links worked fine.

Well that's a good start! Welcome to the future.

There is a fast train every hour to Brighouse from Hebden. It takes 20 minutes and there is a Barclays bank there which is open every day :)

You can deposit cash, cheques and make cash withdrawals for a lot of Barclay's accounts, at the Post Office in Hebden Bridge. Just ask the bank for some deposit slips for cheques and cash can usually be paid in using a debit card.
