Building works continue

From Ms. P. Finch

Tuesday, 31 March 2020

There are several places in Todmorden where building / construction work continues as if the virus doesn't exist. Whilst realising that self employed builders have financial concerns, society and the families of these workers will suffer as a result.

Construction worker firms need to be held accountable, not least the Environment Agency working at Shade & the firm carrying out the works for a new Aldi.

It is totally irresponsible given the close & unhygenic environment that these people work in.

Update: news from Craig Whittaker MP:
'I can confirm that Construction workers are still allowed to continue working. The current guidelines allow them to carry on working provided they adhere to the guidelines as issued by the Chief Medical Advisor.'

The guys working on the railway station renovation were all out having a brew today, no social distancing visible but at least their choice. A completely unpardonable example is the bin and recycling crews crammed into the same cab. The solution is so obvious - a convoy of separate vehicles or at least a large minibus - that to ignore it amounts to criminal negligence.
