Central Library and Archive: Have your say - again

Tuesday, 17 July 2012

Calderdale Council has re-launched its consultation on the future of Halifax town centre.

The Council has appointed Ipsos MORI, an independent research company, to ask for people's views on its plans for Halifax town centre and the Central Library and Archive.

The Council wants Halifax to be a thriving place to live and do business, to secure a long-term future for the area that benefits everyone. The future of the town centre and what happens to the Central Library and Archive are linked.

The Council wants to know what people across Calderdale think about these plans – the results will help inform the Council's decision later in the year.

Ipsos MORI has worked with local groups and residents to ensure the wording of the questions and the accompanying information is fair and without bias.

The questionnaire has been sent to a random sample of homes across Calderdale to make sure all local opinion is fully represented.

If you receive a questionnaire to your home address in July, please fill it in and return to Ipsos MORI in the pre-paid envelope.

If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to give your views on the plans, you can do this here online.

Alternatively, you can pick up a consultation pack from Halifax Town Hall reception, Northgate House reception or Central Library and Archive.
The consultation will run until 30 September 2012. The results are expected to be published in November 2012, when the council hopes to reach a resolution both on its town centre plans and the future of the Central Library and Archive.

For general enquiries and requests for alternative formats of the questionnaire, e.g. large print/ Braille/ translations, please contact Ipsos MORI on 0808 238 5478 or email.

Calderdale Council's Leader, Cllr Tim Swift, says: "The Council's plans for the future of Halifax town centre and the Central Library and Archive will affect the whole borough. The opinions of the people of Calderdale are really important to us, so please tell us what you think of the plans.
"We will carefully consider everyone's views before making any decisions later this year."

Associate Director at Ipsos MORI, Rose Neville, says: "This is people's opportunity to have their say on a major issue that affects everyone who lives or works in Calderdale. We at Ipsos MORI will collect and analyse the responses and we want to ensure that the consultation is conducted fairly and without bias and that we gather the broad range of local opinion."
