Seedy Saturday sees seed swap in Mytholmroyd

Thursday, 4 April 2013

Have you got more seeds that you can possibly use in your garden or allotment this year? Would you like a greater variety of seeds and plants without spending any money? If so come to ‘Seedy Saturday’ on Saturday April 13th at Redacre allotments in Mytholmroyd. Bring along any unwanted seeds or plants, and swap them for new ones to fill up your garden. If you don't have any spare to bring, don’t worry. You can still come and take plants and seeds in return for donations.

Seedy Saturday

This popular event, which has been run for several years now by Calder Food Hub promises to be a vibrant mix of seed and plant swapping, displays from local gardening and food related groups, advice on seed saving, a chance to join up to veg growing skills courses plus seed sowing and craft activities for children. Delicious home made snacks, cakes and refreshments will be available throughout the event.

“It’s great to be running Seedy Saturday at Redacre this year” says Ben Oubridge, one of Calder Food Hub’s directors.

“There is a buzz of excitement at the site at the moment – bees, a new polytunnel, community chickens, lots of new raised beds, natural building workshops, plus the Food Hub has a community allotment where we are running veg growing courses starting later in April.”

Philip Cheshire-Neal, one of Redacre’s directors said “The Red Acre Growing Project is about making links across the green fingered communities of Calderdale so we’re delighted to be hosting the Seedy Saturday this year.”

Seedy Saturday runs from 11am to 4pm.  Entry is free but donations are welcome.

Redacre allotments are situated at the end of Westfield Terrace, between Burnley Road Academy and the fire station.  Come on foot via the canal or park at Mytholmroyd Community Centre.
