Hebden Bridge resident Mike Smith re-elected to Co-op area committee

Mike SmithMike Smith, who lives in Hebden Bridge has been successfully re-elected to the West Yorkshire Area Committee of the Co-op Group for a further three year term.
Mike said, “The area committee's are the first rung of the democratic structure of the Co-op's family of businesses. We meet monthly and are mainly concerned with promoting the interests of members and also consider grant applications for local groups. Recently these have helped support groups as diverse as Hebden Bridge Cricket Club, Hope Baptist Church, The Ground Floor Project, Wainsgate Bee Keepers and the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival.”

“The Co-op has a much wider range of work than just the local supermarket. These are exciting times to be involved in the co-operative movement, with a growing number of co-operative business developing. Just see the recent coverage of the Fox & Goose pub in Hebden Bridge and The Bakehouse in Mytholmroyd.”

Mike is also an elected representative from the West Yorkshire Area on the regional Values & Principles committee and has also been elected to be a member of the governing body of the new Co-operative Primary Academy of Leeds.
