Summit for Mytholmroyd

Calderdale Labour Group has today revealed plans for a cross-community summit on the future economic development and prosperity of Mytholmroyd.

Businesses in the village have struggled for a number of years, with the horrendous flooding of 2012 exacerbating problems.

The Council's new Labour administration has announced it will lead moves for a long-term, ambitious strategy for Mytholmroyd, which drives economic development and enterprise in the village.

Pending this work, Labour councillors have decided, once more, to postpone the introduction of parking charges at the White Lion car park on Burnley Road.

Cllr Barry Collins, Deputy Leader of Calderdale Council said, "The Ambition for Mytholmroyd summit, will be held on Tuesday 24th September at St Michael's Church, and will include representatives from every corner of the community, all working together with the shared aspiration to breathe new life into the historic village.

We've done everything we can to support communities hit by the floods in 2012, but despite our best efforts we haven't seen the kind of recovery we would like to see in Mytholmroyd.

It's important that the whole community pulls together to make this summit a success, so that Mytholmroyd is best able to face the many challenges of the future.

Cllr Simon Young said: "Over the last few weeks there has been some controversy over plans to introduce charges at the Burnley Road car park.

"When I was elected last year I promised to represent all my constituents and that's exactly what I've done. I've listened to feedback from businesses and local residents and have lobbied hard behind the scenes for a joined up plan for Mytholmroyd. Not a quick fix, but a long term strategic vision.

"I'm really pleased to have received the unanimous support of my Labour colleagues to postpone plans for car park charging in Mytholmroyd. This will allow us time to address the wider regeneration issues in the area. We've consulted, we've listened and we're taking action.

"I urge politicians from all parties to put aside party political differences and join with us in forging a brighter future for Mytholmroyd. People want to see vision and real action to turn things around here"
