Trashed in Hebden Bridge

Sunday, 30 March 2014

Narrated by Jeremy Irons, Trashed was selected for Cannes where it had its premiere in 2012, since when it has been shown in over 40 countries and by hundreds of conscientious communities around the world. So far it has screened at over 46 film festivals, been nominated thirteen times and won 8 awards.

The beauty of our planet from space forms a violent contrast to the scenes of human detritus across the globe. Children swim among leaking bags; mothers wash in the sew- age-filled supply.

Each year, we now throw away fifty-eight billion disposable cups, billions of plastic bags, 200 billion litres of water bot- tles, billions of tons of house- hold waste, toxic waste and e-waste.

We buy it, we bury it, we burn it and then we ignore it. Does an- yone think about what happens to all the trash we produce? And we learn that some of the solutions are as frightening and toxic as the problem itself.
