Nortlihts Studio

Northlight is continuing to attract exceptional artists who are passionate about sharing their knowledge.

For something wonderfully different you can 'draw with light and shadow' in Steve Gumbley's extraordinary day workshop on 12th July. Steve is a co-founder of the renowned IOU theatre and an artist who makes intriguing art installations, museum exhibits, theatre shows, carnival sculptures and kinetic art. He is currently a designer for Bike Story, an outdoor touring show for the Tour de France arts festival. The workshop will involve making shadowgraphs - making sculpture and casting shadows; making light-box drawings with sand; filming and photographing the results.

Northlight are now very fortunate to add local painter and tutor Dominic Vince to their team of regular teachers. On 19th -20th July he leads a Portrait Painting Weekend. Open to all abilities you will learn the basics of structure, form and colour and will work towards a painting using oils. Dominic will also be putting his experience as a landscape painter to use in a 5 session 'Summer School' course from 30th July: 'From Landscape to Abstract'. This course introduces the concepts of abstraction using landscape as a starting point and will include some outdoor sketching.
The weekend of 16th -17th August sees Dominic teaming up with painter and printmaker Don Myers for an exciting mix of outdoor townscape sketching and simple monoprint and relief printmaking.

Rounding off the Summer offer is a the 'Feel for Fibre' weekend on August 30th and 31st. Northlight is now a studio home to four resident artists who work with wool. In this varied and inspiring weekend Carol and Pete Leonard, Nicola Winters and Penny Graham will lead an exploration into spinning, weaving and dyeing. This is a great opportunity to learn these craft skills and to further enhance your knowledge.

Early booking is recommended for all these special courses – tel 01422 843519 or visit www.northlightstudio.co.uk for more information.
