Wainsgate Concert: Joe Richards

Sunday 30 September, Wainsgate Chapel, 3pm

Joe Richards

On Sunday September 30th Wainsgate Chapel welcomes the extraordinary classical percussionist Joe Richards for the penultimate concert in what has been a highly entertaining and popular series. A first class honours graduate of the Royal College of Music, he will be performing contemporary pieces for solo marimba written by various composers including Joseph Schwanter, Paul Lansky and Philippe Hurel.

Joe has performed all over the UK and abroad in a huge array of musical contexts; ranging from work as a contemporary solo artist, to that of an orchestral, chamber and West End musician.

He has appeared with numerous ensembles including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and London Sinfonietta, frequently featuring on national radio and television. These projects have seen him collaborate with such internationally renowned musicians as Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Stewart Copeland (The Police), Mark Ford, Daniella Ganeva, We Spoke Ensemble, Plus-Minus Ensemble and Nebojsa Zivkovic amongst many others.

“In 2011 I booked Joe to perform in Heptonstall Church as part of the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival”, concert series organiser Dave Nelson told the HebWeb. “He was absolutely brilliant then and he’s even better now! I can’t wait to hear the sound of the marimba in the near-perfect acoustic of the Chapel.”

Joe Richard’s recital starts at the usual time of 3pm. Tickets, which are only available at the door, cost £10 and £8 with a special ticket price of £3 for under-18s.

The final concert in the Wainsgate season is on October 7th when To the End of War celebrates 100 years since the signing of the Armistice with songs of peace, love and understanding from five choirs: three from the north of England and two from the north of Germany.
