Invasion by Red Hatters

Wednesday, 24 July 2019

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple. With a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me.

So starts Warning, a poem by Jenny Joseph which, 21 years ago, inspired 'ladies' in America to start the Red Hat Society. It is now an international 'club' for ladies to join together to enjoy life.

2018, last time the Red Hatters came to Hebden Bridge

Margaret from the Cleckheaton Red Hat Chapter has written to the HebWeb to tell us that "On Thursday 1st August (Yorkshire Day of course) around 30 ladies - all dressed in purple clothes and wearing stunning red hats, plan to visit Hebden Bridge for the day. We are from all over the country and this visit has been organised by the Cleckheaton Red Hat Chapter.

"So, if you want to see a truly flamboyant sight, keep your eyes open for us wandering round your beautiful town, enjoying your shops, cafes and outside spaces.

"We may be getting on in years, but are still little girls at heart!"
