On Thursday 12th September there is a concert in Heptonstall Parish Church by the internationally-known group Trio Mediaeval and the tenor John Potter.

The programme, Machaut and the Kings of Cyprus, explores the connection between medieval French composer Machaut and the mysterious Cypriot-French composers of a generation or two later. The first half will consist of the Machaut mass, together with Cypriot chant antiphons, followed after the interval by a mass and motets from Cyprus.

The vocal ensemble Trio Mediaeval was founded in Oslo in 1997. They made their first recording with ECM in 2002 and have since made 5 further recordings of medieval and contemporary music. Trio Mediæval has performed throughout Europe in a variety of venues: churches, cathedrals, monasteries, farms, clubs, industrial spaces, museums as well as prestigious halls such as Oslo Concert Hall, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, London's Wigmore Hall and the Vienna Konzerthaus.

During the last eight years, Trio Mediaeval has developed exciting collaborations with individual musicians including the tenor John Potter. John Potter is a singer and author. His books on singing are published by Cambridge and Yale University Press. He records for ECM, and his current projects include collaborations with his former Hilliard Ensemble colleagues. He is Reader Emeritus in Music at the University of York.

This is a unique opportunity to experience this music in Heptonstall and an opportunity not be be missed! After visiting Heptonstall, the group fly to Germany to perform the same programme at the Abbey Church in Otterberg in Rhineland on Saturday night as part of the Otterberger AbteiKirchenKonzerte festival.

The concert in Heptonstall Parish Church on Thursday 12th September is at 7.00pm.

Tickets and further information is available online at www.cantorelli.co.uk and on the door price £10.00 on the night.
