This is the first of the new e-bike share hubs to be put in place in the upper Calder Valley.  We:cycle is being delivered by the Alternative Technology Centre and supported by the Department of Transport and Calderdale Council.  It is one of 12 projects that are piloting the use of electric bikes across the UK.

We:cycle is a membership scheme is run along similar lines to Hour Car, the Valley's car share club.  It operates an online booking system for local residents and visitors to the valley, which will be accessed through the website www.wecycle.org.uk which will go live over the coming weekend.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the scheme, wanting to find out more or keen to have a go on one of the bikes, is invited to come along to the New Delight Inn on Saturday.

This is the first of the hubs to be installed and will be followed by the Hare and Hounds in Old Town and the Cross Inn at Heptonstall.  Others sites are currently being negotiated.

Project manager Paul Forrest told the HebWeb,"The bikes we provide are new top-of-the-range Motus bikes from Raleigh - built to cope with the type of hills we have round here and provide a range of over 30 miles on a single charge."
