Calder Grub Hub

Calder Grub Hub, which has only been operating for two months has already become an important addition to community life in the valley.
The Grub Hub has been providing between 50 and 90 free vegan meals at Hope Baptist Church each Wednesday since the start of September.
The idea for Calder Grub Hub was devised by Sam and her partner Martin, but it has quickly been developed into a collective enterprise with different activity groups and many volunteers, who source and prepare food and serve it to the diners who arrive for tea on Wednesdays.
The aim is to provide two wholesome courses, a soup and a main course as well as home baked cakes that have been produced by some of the volunteers. Tea, coffee and a range of herbal teas are also available.
Anyone is welcome to come along and eat between 5 and 7 pm. There are no questions asked and people are not required to supply contact details; Grub Hub wants their service to be as inclusive and accessible as possible.
Grub Hub is all about community, de-stigmatising social eating and kindness. Grub Hub provides a really welcoming, warm and pleasant atmosphere, where social contact is as important as the food itself. Some families come and people have turned up from as far away as Colne and Bradford, often on public transport. The meal has already attracted some regulars whilst new diners come along every week.
The collective is thankful that the Hope Baptist Church has provided them with the venue. The volunteers swing into action in mid-afternoon turning an empty room into a dining area whilst others quickly produce hot food to be served at 5 o'clock. In no time at all, an efficient team has developed that is able to easily introduce new members into the fold.
They are also thankful for the businesses in the community, who support and encourage them: Blue Sky Baker, Valley Organics Workers co-op, Pennine Cropshare, Suma and Weighsted.
Grub Hub also receives some regular contributions from individual supporters. Here is the link if it interests you
Grub Hub is also targeting an ambitious Christmas Day Dinner at Hope Baptist providing a three-course meal accompanied by some music and festive games. Full details will be available by the start of December.
If you would like to partake of the meal on a Wednesday, please call into Hope Baptist at 5pm. If you feel you'd like to help in any way please use these contact details:
