Ebb and Flow: Exhibition about river walk.

Wednesday 5 June 2024

Local artist Annie Harrison will be showing artwork from 14-16 June at Northlight Studios in a solo exhibition, 'Ebb and Flow: Artefacts from a river walk'.

The work has been inspired by a walk she did with her partner in 2021 and 2022, along the river network from their home in Mytholmroyd to Hull.

Annie's artwork explores the relationship between people and places and, in this exhibition, she has produced textiles, prints, painting, ceramics and artists books which capture aspects of the journey. She has incorporated eco-prints from plants collected along the banks of the rivers: Calder, Aire, Ouse and Humber and has created a map of the journey in a giant handmade patchwork, over four meters long,

Annie says, "This project allowed me to pursue all my favourite things in one go: creativity, walking, nature and exploring new places.

"Walking along rivers is often quite challenging as the paths can get washed away, or are inaccessible, so it was a real adventure.

"Being from a community that has experienced so much flooding, the river can sometimes feel like an enemy, but on this walk, we made peace with the river and even began to feel protective of it."

The exhibition is at Northlight Studios, Hangingroyd Lane, Hebden Bridge, opening on Friday 14th June 7-9pm and continuing on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th June from 11-5pm.
