Murder Investigation Launched

Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a man died following a serious assault in Hebden Bridge on Saturday night, 27 July.

Officers were called at 20:57 on 27 July to reports of an ongoing fight between two men on Crown Street.  

Police and ambulance attended the scene and found a man aged 52 unconscious.  

The victim was taken to hospital with a life threatening head injury, the man sadly died in hospital yesterday. (29 July)

Officers have re-arrested a man aged 31 on suspicion of murder. He remains in Police custody at this time.

Detective Chief Inspector Damian Roebuck of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said, "Specially trained officers are supporting the victim's family at this time and we are making extensive enquiries into his death.

"We know that there were a lot of people in Crown Street at the time who witnessed the incident, I would appeal directly to them to come forward and help us in our investigation.

"We are also appealing to any drivers who were in the area at the time who may have dash cam footage to come forward."
