Keeping Old Town Post Office for the Community

Thursday 30 January 2025

Wadsworth Area Community Assets Limited is a co-operative formed with the aim of ensuring Old Town Post Office, shop and Café can continue to serve the community into the future.

Wadsworth Area Community Assets Limited is working closely with the current business owners, who recently put the business up for sale, in order to ensure its smooth transition into Community Ownership. We aim to run the business as it is run now, with existing staff simply becoming employees of the new business.

The co-operative is:

  • Not for profit - money is reinvested back into the business.
  • Open, transparent and keen to engage with as many people as possible
  • Currently managed by a small board of local volunteers, who offered to work on the initial phases....
  • with more volunteers on working groups to take our aims for the Post Office forward.

Membership

  • Anyone over the age of 16 can apply to be a member once we launch our membership drive.
  • There will be annual elections to the Board - members can stand for election, and vote for board members each year.

Funding

  • In the future we will be applying for grants and issuing a Community Share Offer to raise money to purchase the Post Office.
  • Current fundraising is to cover the costs of publicity and setting up the organisation.

Anyone interested in finding out more, getting more involved or being kept more regularly in touch can email OTPostOffice@gmail.com, or visit our soon to be launched website at www.wacacoop.org.uk.
