POD car share
is up and running
Three cars in Hebden Bridge
and two in Tod
Car sharing has returned to the Upper Calder Valley! At the start of February, POD's cars began arriving in their car bays. In Hebden Bridge, there are 3 cars located at Market Place car park, Salem Mill and Bridge Lanes car park. There are a further 2 cars in Todmorden.
In the first few weeks, many users have signed up and are already using the cars with the POD app. The app allows users to seamlessly book, unlock/lock the cars and pay for usage. To join POD, click here.
Users will be able to add a range of accessories to their bookings: bicycle racks, child seats and roof racks. And two of the cars are suitable for carrying pets (dog barrier included!).
POD's overall ambition is to offer an affordable alternative to car ownership in the valley. In doing so, the car share aims to reduce car ownership and overall levels of car use with key benefits being cleaner air, healthier residents, less congestion and fewer parking tensions. It is a democratic and member-led Community Benefit Society which means local people can buy community shares – a great way to contribute to POD and inform our future direction.
Long-term, POD aims to become fully electric and to expand beyond Hebden Bridge and Todmorden town centres by providing cars in areas including Mytholmroyd, Old Town, Heptonstall and Luddendenfoot.
