'Mytholmroyd Man' Memorial Tree

Monday 17 March 2025

Last Friday, 14th March 2025, marked the first anniversary of Tony Hodgins' death, and a rowan tree was planted in White Lee Memorial Gardens, Mytholmroyd, to mark his contribution to the community.

Tony was a well-known figure in Mytholmroyd as a former Town Councillor and Town Mayor; former treasurer of Royd Regeneration and founder member of Mytholmroyd Flood Wardens. He was also a co-founder of Calder Valley Radio and many will remember his hugely successful Shuffle Show.

Royd Regeneration and the Flood Wardens jointly contributed to the tree and plaque and the event was attended by Tony's long-term partner, Hazel; Town Mayor Pat Fraser who unveiled the plaque, her consort, plus friends and family.

Quote from Hazel, Tony's partner:
"My family and I would like to thank everyone for their kind words and to those who came along. Tony would have been so humbled and will be forever missed."

Quote from Councillor Pat Fraser, Mayor Hebden Royd Town Council: "Tony was my mentor when I first became a Councillor and later his Deputy so I was honoured to unveil the plaque by his memorial tree.
He will always be remembered as The Mytholmroyd Man.
